Boudh: Two persons were killed and another sustained critical injury after a speeding SUV dashed against their moped at a village in Bouidh district of Odisha.
As per information, the mishap took place near Khajuripada Chhak when the victims were returning from a wedding party late on Tuesday night. The deceased were identified as Bighneshwar Mahar (50) and his 12-year-old grandson Omkar Sethy.
Sources said Bighneshwar, a resident of Shyamsundarpur village under the Biranarasinghpur panchayat in Boudh, had gone to Karunapali in Bamanda panchayat along with a friend Himanshu Sethy to attend the wedding feast.
While returning, his grandson Omkar insisted on accompanying them home. On the way, the SUV, allegedly driving at high speed, crashed into their two-wheeler from behind, grievously injuring all of them.
Locals rushed the injured to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared Omkar and Bighneshwar dead on arrival. Himanshu was shifted to VIMSAR at Burla as his condition was highly critical.
On being informed, police initiated an investigation into the mishap and efforts are on to trace the driver of the SUV, who fled the scene soon after the accident.
