Hyderabad: A man has been arrested for touching a female co-passenger in an inappropriate manner on a flight from Chennai. The man was allegedly drunk at that time.

According to the police, the 38-year-old complainant – an IT professional – was travelling from Chennai to Hyderabad with her husband when the incident happened.

The accused, in his mid-40s, works in Chennai and was on his way to Uttar Pradesh via Hyderabad when he allegedly committed the crime. He had apparently consumed alcohol before boarding the flight and was in an inebriated state.

The woman claimed that she was sitting with her husband when the incident happened. The couple apparently fell asleep, and when the flight was about to land at the airport, the woman found someone touching her inappropriately and noticed the man’s hand. She then raised an alarm and cabin crew intervened.

She registered a complaint with the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police after the flight landed and the man was booked under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The man claimed that he had touched the woman accidentally and also apologised to her immediately. The police are probing the matter.

The incident comes soon after another passenger narrated her ordeal during her flight on social media. This woman had paid for a window seat with additional leg space as she wanted to rest.

However, an ill-mannered child kept on disturbing her in the presence of the mother. When the woman complained, the child’s mother asked her to exchange seats with her husband who was in another row.

Some netizens said that it may have been a ploy by the family to get her evicted from the seat that she had paid additional money for, so they may travel together. Others accused the mother of bad parenting.
