Bargarh: In a gruesome incident, a man was brutally attacked and stabbed to death at a petrol pump in Haldipali village under Sohela area of Odisha’s Bargarh district.
Tension prevailed in the area on Thursday after the victim, identified as Balistha Pradhan, was murdered in a ghastly attack by the assailant late on Wednesday night.
Visuals of the incident, captured on CCTV cameras, show the assailant repeatedly striking the victim when he was sitting on a chair at the petrol pump. The miscreant, identified as Lipu Sahu of nearby Garbhana village, suddenly appeared. He hit the Pradhan several times and attacked with sharp-edged weapon, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.
Angry over the incident, locals staged a protest and road blockade near the site demanding justice and immediate steps to arrest the assailant.
Sohela police rushed to the location to pacify the protesters and restore normalcy.
Police sources said the accused has been apprehended and detained at the police station for interrogation. While the murder was suspected to have been triggered by old enmity, the exact reason would be ascertained after thorough investigation. Further details are awaited.
