Jagatsinghpur: An undertrial prisoner, who had escaped from jail last year, allegedly killed his grandmother and injured two others by attacking them with a sharp weapon at a village in Balikuda area of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday.
The incident reportedly took place Gadeigiri village under the jurisdiction of Balikuda police station. The deceased was identified as Sakhilata Sahu. Two other women who sustained injuries in the attack have been admitted to hospital for treatment, sources said.
The accused, identified as Jeevan Jyoti Sahu, has been detained by the police.
According to preliminary reports, Jeevan reached the house of his grandmother and mounted an attack with a sharp weapon. While his grandmother died on the spot, two other sustained grievous injuries in the attack.

Jeevan, who had been arrested in connection with a criminal case, had escaped from jail in 2022 and was on the run since then before he suddenly appeared in the area.
While the exact reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the motive of the incident was related to the love affair.
Villagers said the accused allegedly committed the crime because his family was opposing his inter-caste marriage. Police have launched an investigation and further details are awaited.
