Man Hacks Younger Brother To Death Over Land Dispute In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly hacked his younger brother to death over a land-related dispute at a village in Rasgobindpur area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.

As per preliminary information, the brutal murder took place at Nalagaja village under the jurisdiction of Rasgobindpur police station in the district.

Locals said that accused Arun Mahana killed his younger brother Jayant Mahana following a heated argument over the boundary of their houses. The two were involved in land-related disputes for a long time and frequently fought over the issue.

Sources said Jayant was trying to fence the boundary limits of his house when his elder brother strongly opposed his move.

A fierce altercation erupted between them and in a fit of rage Arun allegedly attacked Jayant with a sword and repeatedly hit his neck. As a result, Jayant reportedly died on the spot, while the accused was stated to have fled the village after committing the crime.

After being informed about the incident, a team from Rasagobindpur police station visited the site and initiated a probe into the incident.
