Bhadrak: A man allegedly hanged himself after stabbing his wife to death inside their house at a village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Thursday.
The shocking incident was reported from Nangamahala village under the jurisdiction of Bhadrak Puruna Bazaar police station. The deceased have been identified as Sk Mustafa Raja and his wife Sonu Bibi.
While Mustafa was a resident of Bhadrak district, Sonu hailed from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The couple left behind two daughters, aged around six years and one year.
According to preliminary reports, the couple had been facing marital discord for quite some time. Though family members had made repeated attempts to settle the dispute, their efforts failed to resolve the matter.
Police sources said Mustafa allegedly attacked Sonu with a sharp weapon when other family members were away. While she reportedly died at the spot, the man later hanged himself in the same room.
After coming to know about the incident, neighbours informed the police. A team from Puruna Bazar visited the spot and initiated an investigation. The bodies were recovered and sent to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for post-mortem examination.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the deaths.
