Man Held For Cheating Youth With Job Promise By Posing As Odisha CMO Joint Secy



Cuttack: A 60-year-old man was arrested in Odisha’s Cuttack for allegedly posing as joint secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and duping a youth of Rs 75,000 on the promise of providing him a government job.

The accused has been identified as Arjun Panigrahi of Machhala village under the jurisdiction of Ramachandrapur police station in Keonjhar district. He was apprehended from his rented accommodation i

A senior police official said one Sameer Sahoo of Nachhipur village had filed a complaint accusing Panigrahi of cheating him on the pretext of giving him a job. The accused had allegedly taken Rs 75,000 from Sahoo to get him a job but he failed to keep his word.

When the complainant demanded his money back, the accused returned only Rs 20,000 withholding the remaining sum. Finally, Sahoo lodged a complaint with the police.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered and Panigrahi arrested after investigation. Preliminarily probe showed he impersonated as a joint secretary in the CMO and approached various people promising to provide government job and help in transfers.

Police have seized Rs 38,000 cash, a register, a fake identity card, a mobile phone and a bank passbook from his possession.
