Bhubaneswar: A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Odisha’s Kendujhar for allegedly making derogatory and obscene remarks against Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on social media.
The accused has been identified as Sushant Das of Ichhapur village of Kalinga panchayat under the jurisdiction of Nandipada police station in the district.
Sources said Sushant had posted indecent remarks about the Chief Minister in his Facebook account ‘Das Kumar Das Sushant’ a few days ago.
After noticing the post on social media, workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had condemned the act and urged the police to initiate appropriate action in this regard.
A complaint was also lodged against Sushant with Nandipada police on July 31 in this regard.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the man under Sections 351(2), 296, 356(2), 353(2) and 238 of the BNS and Section 67 of the IT Act and launched a probe.
Following preliminary probe conducted with the assistance of technical experts, the accused was arrested. Further investigation is underway, said a senior police officer.
