Cuttack: The commissionerate police on Sunday arrested a man for giving triple ‘talaq’ to his wife over phone and sent him to the Circle Jail at Choudwar after the court rejected his bail plea.
Briefing mediapersons, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said that the accused Barkatullah Khan (32) of Dewan Bazar had given triple ‘talaq’ to his wife Munni Khatun (29) over phone seven months ago.
According to the complaint lodged by Munni Khatun, a native of Korei in Jajpur district and a mother of three, at the Mahila Police Station, she had married Barkatullah in 2011. But as her in-laws did not allow them to stay at their house in Dewan Bazar due to family dispute, they lived in a rented house in Cuttack and later shifted to Bhubaneswar.
She said that her husband had gone to Bengaluru last year in search of a job and then gave her triple talaq ovsr phone.
She also alleged that her husband has married a woman from Tirtol area in Jagatsinghpur district.
