Berhampur: A man was detained by the police for allegedly poisoning his wife following an argument at a village in Sorada area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
The incident took place at Sanabadangi village under the jurisdiction of Sorada police station in the district after an altercation between Radhakant Behera and his wife Rinki Behera over some family issues, sources said.
According to a complaint lodged at Sorada police station by the women’s family members, the accused allegedly planned to kill his wife and poisoned her as the relation between the two had soured.
As Rinki’s condition deteriorated due to alleged poisoning on Saturday evening, she was taken to a hospital at Sorada. However, she died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment
However, this allegation was refuted by the man’s family members saying that the woman died by suicide following a quarrel.
Acting on the FIR, police launched an investigation to ascertain the actual cause of the woman’s death. While Radhakant has been detained for interrogation, the body of the woman was sent for postmortem.
