Man Held For Theft At Senior IAS Officer’s Residence In Bhubaneswar



Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery from the residence of senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in Bhubaneswar.

The accused was identified as Rabindra Naik (35) alias Gobara, a resident of Kedarpalli slum here. Police found the involvement of Naik while examining the CCTV footage, a senior police officia

l said on Wednesday.

The accused, stated to be a habitual burglar, was previously arrested in two theft cases in the Lingaraj police area and one in the Airfield area in the city, he said.

Naik scaled the rear boundary wall of Sethi’s quarters located in front of police commissioner S Dev Datta Singh’s residence in the posh Forest Park locality, making off with a diamond ring and cash in the early hours of May 1.

As per the complaint lodged by Sethi’s wife, Vaishali, at the Capital police station, the incident took place between 12.30 am and 9 am. Her FIR reported the theft of a handbag containing cash, two gold earrings, and a diamond ring.

Police have so far managed to recover only a few hundred rupees from the accused. Further investigation is in progress.
