Jagatsinghpur: The prime accused in the alleged murder of a 44-year-old woman, who was brutally hacked to death in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district a week back, has been nabbed from Chennai.
The accused has been identified as Bikram Biswal (36) of Ogerpur village under Balikuda police limits.
The woman, Mania Biswal, was brutally hacked to death in her sleep and the body later dumped in a pond in the village late in the night on February 19. Her son Rakesh Biswal (23) and daughter-in-law Subhadra (19) also suffered grievous injuries in the horrifying attack and were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, in critical condition.
Additional SP Amarendra Panda attributed the attack and murder to a long-standing dispute between Mania and Bikram.
The investigation revealed that Rakesh, who also worked in Chennai, had returned to the village a week before the incident. He had met Bikram at Chennai railway station and told him about his trip to Ogerpur. Following which, Bikram also landed at Ogerpur a few days later. After committing the crime, he fled to Chennai where he is employed in a private company and his cellphone was found switched off.
“A police team arrested Bikram on Sunday after gathering information about him in Chennai and he was brought to Jagatsinghpur on a transit remand. Investigation is underway to ascertain involvement of others in the crime,” Panda added.
