Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a man jumped into a river with his nine-month-old child under mysterious circumstances in Kandarpur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday.
The incident took place at Sainda village. The man with the child jumped into Sidhua river. While the kid was rescued by locals and sent to a nearby hospital in a critical condition, the man is yet to be traced, sources said.
The man, identified as Prakash Chandra Pradhan, was a resident of Kandarpur area. Pradhan, who was staying in his father-in-law’s house, was stated to have taken the extreme step following a family dispute.
The man was reportedly out with his wife and child to visit a temple. However, the couple entered into a quarrel over some trivial issue and the man rushed towards the river. As his wife tried to stop him, he attacked her with a piece of stone.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the child immediately. However, efforts are still on to trace the man who was away by the strong river current.
On being informed, fire services personnel and Cuttack Sadar police reached the spot. A search operation is in progress to trace the man.
