Bhawanipatna: In a tragic incident, a man died and four others sustained critical injuries after being attacked by honeybees at in a forest in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place in the forest near Betiapada in Bijepur area in the district. The deceased was identified as Burja Majhi (45). He succumbed while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhawanipatna.
The injured victims Purna Majhi (46), Lipa Majhi (36), Mugri Majhi (38) and Pagu Majhi (38) returned home after being treated in a hospital at Bengaon.
Sources said five persons all from Betiapada village under Bijepur police limits had gone to collect firewood in Titing Jharan forest when they were attacked by a swarm of honeybees.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital. Burja Majhi was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Bhawanipatna as his condition turned critical. However, he succumbed during treatment.
On being informed, a police team visited the spot and started a probe into the incident.
