Baripada: A man was killed and his wife sustained severe injuries in an attack by a wild bear at Kaudiabahaki village under Thakurmunda block in Baripada on Saturday morning.
According to sources, the couple had gone to a jungle near the village to collect tooth sticks, when the wild bear attacked them. The man died on the spot and his wife was critically injured.
In a similar mishap on September 29, a person had died and two others sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a wild bear at Basudevpur under Madhapur range in Angul district.
According to locals, the trio had gone to a forest to collect mushroom in the morning when a bear, all of a sudden, dragged them into a bushy area and attacked them.
When the villagers rushed to the spot after hearing noises, the animal fled the area.
Those injured were admitted to VIMSAR in Burla. On getting information, police and forest department officials reached the spot and recovered the body.
