Bhubaneswar: A 29-year-old man allegedly died by suicide on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar after sharing a video message accusing a woman police official of harassing him.

The deceased, identified as Dibyajyoti Sahu of Uttara under Pipili police limits, accused a woman sub-inspector of Lingaraj police station of harassing him.

Sahu shared a video message making the allegation against the police official before killing himself at his house in Uttara on January 30 night.

Initially, Pipili police had registered a case of unnatural death. However, after the video went viral, an abetment of suicide case was filed by the police.

In the video, the deceased can be seen accusing a woman SI of Lingaraj police station of demanding Rs 50,000 to settle a case registered against him basing on his wife’s complaint.

The man claimed in the video that his wife had lodged a false complaint against him after he refused to provide a loan to her brother. He was also upset as his wife took their four-year-old son with her following some differences recently.

A case was registered against him and his family members on January 21 based on his wife’s complaint of torture and dowry demands. He had appeared before the Lingaraj police on January 24 and was let off after being served a notice, a police official said.
