Cuttack: The body of a man was recovered from Kathajodi River here on Wednesday morning, a day after he had jumped into the river to commit suicide.
The deceased, Debabrata Majhi (32), had jumped into Kathajodi River from Netaji Subash Chandra Bose bridge in Cuttack on Tuesday evening.
According to witnesses, Debabrata came to the bridge riding a bike. He stopped the bike midway, kept his helmet and mobile phone on it and then jumped into the river. Though locals gathered there immediately, they could not trace him because of low light.
On being informed, Baranga police and fire department officials reached the spot and started searching him, but in vain. Ppolice and an ODRAF team finally recovered the body on Wednesday morning.
“Debabrata was mentally disturbed for the last 12 years and was undergoing treatment at a Cuttack-based hospital,” said his father, Budhiram Majhi of Tala Sabara Sahi in Gadakana area.
Notably, another man had also committed suicide by jumping into Kathajodi river recently, following a family dispute. His body was also recovered after several days.
