Cuttack: A man allegedly killed a widow at a village Tigiria area of Odisha’s Cuttack district and surrendered before the police after committing the crime.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Panchagaon village under the jurisdiction of Tigiria police station in the district on Friday night. The accused, identified as Kartik Sethi (35), is a resident of the same village.
Villagers said Kartik, who had been living in the widow’s house since he was around 10 and doing household work, had a heated argument with the woman. In a fit of rage, he allegedly killed the woman by slitting her throat.
After committing the crime, Kartik surrendered at the Tigiria police station, where he was detained.
Sources said Kartik, stated to be a Divyang, committed the crime in an attempt to acquire the property of the woman.
Police started an investigation into the incident and seized the body. Efforts are on to ascertain the exact motive behind the incident.
