Man, Nephew Die, Another Critical After Snakebite At Construction Camp In Odisha


Balangir: In a tragic incident, a worker and his nephew died after being bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping at an open labour camp in Odisha’s Balangir district.

Another worker, who was critical after being bitten by snake injured in the incident, is undergoing treatment in hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Daitari Tandi (40) and his nephew Bharat Tandi (30), residents of Chacharabhata village under Sinapali area of neighbouring Nuapada district. The injured worker has been identified as Tulasi Bagarti (45).

According to information, around 10 labourers from the Sinapali area were engaged in bridge construction work at Baldha village under Bangomunda police limits. After dinner, the workers slept at an open camp near the construction site when the incident occurred.

A venomous snake reportedly entered the camp during the night and bit Daitari, Bharat and Tulasi. However, Daitari and Bharat initially did not realise that they had been bitten

Later, the two men helped other workers take the seriously ill Tulasi to the Khadial Sub-Divisional Hospital. It was there that they reportedly learnt that both Daitari and Bharat had also suffered snakebites.

As the condition of all three deteriorated, they were shifted to the Nuapada District Headquarter, where the uncle-nephew duo died. Tulasi was later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, for advanced treatment.
