Sonepur: A newborn girl was found abandoned along a road near Tulundupali village under the Binika Police station in Odisha’s Sonepur on Saturday.
Sources said a local resident spotted the half-buried baby and found that she was alive. The man, identified as Santosh Nayi, immediately rushed her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Binika, where the child was provided initial medical attention and treatment.
Later, the newborn was shifted to Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment. Her condition is now stated to be stable.
Sharing his experience, Santosh said, “I spotted the infant lying abandoned on the road. I have no idea how long the newborn was lying there in the cold unattended. The child was covered with mud, blood and dirt. But once I realised she was alive, I at once rushed to the hospital and urged the medical authorities to save the infant. The doctors complied and also referred her to Sonepur District Hospital.”
Meanwhile, Santosh and his wife reportedly expressed the desire to adopt the abandoned girl. The childless couple approached the district administration, urging it to permit them to take custody of the child.
