With governments and officers being increasingly active on social media, a power theft complaint from a person of Salipur, Cuttack, was addressed immediately.
One Sk Rafikuddin had tweeted on August 27 to Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) and CESU’s CEO Arun Bothra about a power theft by a shop owner at Bahugram under Salipur block of Cuttack district.
The shop owner was allegedly stealing electricity using hooks. The complainant mentioned that this had been going on for seven years, and this was why voltage was low in the area.
CESU officials raided the shop on August 29 and imposed a fine of Rs 25,645.
CEO Bothra tweeted that the complainant is entitled to a reward of 10 per cent of the penalty amount recovered.
It is worth noting that CESU has a reward scheme for people giving information on power theft. Their names are kept secret as well.
