Cuttack: A man was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for ten years by a special court in Odisha’s Cuttack for raping a minor girl eight years ago.
The designated POCSO court in Cuttack also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on convict Rakesh Kumar Rout alias Babun (38) of Olatpur area under Kantapada area in Cuttack district.
The court ordered that the convict would undergo additional jail term of six months if he fails to pay the penalty, sources said.
According to the prosecution, Babun had on September 15, 2013, sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl on September 15, 2013 when she was along in the house.
The Olatpur police conducted an investigation based on a complaint by the girl’s parents and arrested the accused after two days. Later they filed a charge-sheet slapping Section 376(2) of IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO Act against the accused.
The court pronounced the verdict after examining 10 witnesses and other evidence, the sources added.
