Keonjhar: A man was sentenced to imprisonment for life by a court in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Tuesday for burning his wife to death around six years ago.
The court of the Additional District Judge (ADJ), Champua, Saroj Kumar Das convicted and pronounced life term for Ranjan Gagrai of Kolha Barpada village under the jurisdiction of Barbil police station for committing the crime in 2018.
As per the case record, Ranjan Gagrai had poured kerosene on his wife Jatani, set her on fire and fled from the scene. She was rushed to the Barbil hospital by locals. She was later shifted to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where she succumbed to the burn injuries.
A case of murder was registered in the Barbil police station. Ranjan was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Based on the dying declaration of the victim and other evidence, the court pronounced the verdict.
