Balasore: Union Minister and Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi has come to the aid of a hapless woman after she was set on fire by her husband in Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, one Mohit Kumar Mohapatra, a resident of Dariha village in Patulipura Panchayat area, had allegedly set his wife, Monalisa, on fire eight months ago. The accused was reportedly angry with his wife for opposing his extra-marital affairs.
Monalisa was admitted with severe burns in a hospital. However, she reportedly could not get proper treatment due to lack of money.
When he heard about Monalisa’s plight, Sarangi provided the money for her treatment as well as plastic surgery.
After her discharge from hospital, Monalisa met Sarangi to thank him personally for giving her a new lease of life.
“The main accused is out on bail now. Monalisa is not safe and doesn’t have a permanent house to live in. We are trying to settle her,” the minister said.
He has also talked to the Balasore Collector, K Sudarshan Chakrabarty, and senior police officials to get justice for Monalisa.
