New Delhi: A man allegedly shot himself dead at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Monday, prompting police to cordon off the area and begin an investigation into the incident, officials said.
According to Delhi Police, the man’s identity has not yet been confirmed. The body has been taken into custody and will be sent for post-mortem after legal formalities are completed.
A senior officer at the scene said, “We received information about a man shooting himself at Jantar Mantar. Police personnel rushed to the spot immediately. He is yet to be identified.”
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and questioning people present nearby to determine what led to the suicide.
Jantar Mantar, a designated site for protests and demonstrations in the heart of the capital, was temporarily sealed as forensic teams collected evidence.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
