Keonjhar: A man allegedly shot dead his elder sister for refusing to give him money for his treatment at Samagiri village under Pandapada police limits in Keonjhar district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Malati Barik, The accused, Prasanna Barik, was working as a gunman at a private firm.
According to sources, Prassana has been ailing for the past few days. He asked his sister for money for his treatment. When she refused, he lost his cool and shot her using his licensed gun. The neighbours rushed her to the district headquarters hospital where she was declared dead.
On being informed, a team from Pandapada police station reached the village, seized the weapon used in the crime and took Prasanna into custody.
Sources further said that the accused was sole breadwinner of the family and give his hard-earned money to his wife and unmarried sister. “Today when he asked his sister and wife for some money for his treatment, both refused. Following which, he lost his temper and shot his sister dead. Thereafter, he did not flee but surrendered before police,” said Arjun Parida, a relative.
