Pune: A birthday celebration turned tragic on Thursday night when a 37-year-old man was shot dead in the Dehu Road area of Pimpri Chinchwad in Pune.
The deceased has been identified as Vikram Guruswami Reddy.
The incident took place at around 11 pm when a group of individuals confronted Reddy and his friend, Nandkishor Yadav, over celebrating Yadav’s niece’s birthday on the roadside. “When Yadav asked them to leave, one of the suspects struck him in the face with a chair. Reddy, intervened to defuse the situation, but one of the suspects opened fire, injuring him,” The Print reported, quoting an official of Dehu Road police station.
Reddy was rushed to hospital but succumbed during treatment.
Pune Mirror shared a CCTV footage of the incident, showing one person firing on two individuals trying to flee on a motorcycle.
Meanwhile, police have identified the suspects and further investigation is underway.
