Bhadrak: A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in front of a polling booth over conjugal dispute in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Saturday.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Rashmirekha Behera of Jaragambhira village under Bhadrak Rural police station in the district had got married to Prabhakar Rout of Muktadihi village under the same police limits around 5 years back.
After the birth of a son three years back, the relationship between the couple soured and they used to fight over family matters. As the differences escalated into constant fights, Rashmi came to stay with her parents in her village a few months back.
On Saturday, she came with her paternal uncle to cast her vote in Muktadihi village during last phase of elections in the state. While she was waiting in the queue for her turn, Prabhakar came there and attacked her with a sharp weapon.
As Rashmi sustained critical injuries and collapsed in a pool of blood, the villagers rushed her to the local hospital. But the doctors of the hospital declared her brought dead.
On being informed, a team from Bhadrak Rural police station went to the spot and started investigation. They detained Prabhakar and sent Rashmi’s body for investigation. They have also registered a case of unnatural death.
