Berhampur: In a ghastly incident, a man was stoned to death by a 16-year-old tipsy boy at a wine shop in Odisha’s Ganjam district after he refused to give money to the minor to buy more liquor, sources said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Premnagar Area under Badabazar police station limits in Berhampur city. The deceased was identified as Gopal Krushna Patra (47) while the minor accused belongs to the Dhanamera area.
According to police, both Patra and the boy were drinking at the wine shop and the accused suddenly demanded money from him apparently to buy more liquor. Irked by his demand, Patra abused the boy and thrashed him.
Angered by the humiliation, the boy was hiding near the shop to attack the man. As soon as Patra came out of the shop, the accused, who was already in an inebriated state attacked him and hit his head repeatedly with a stone.
Patra, who sustained grievous injuries, was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The minor boy was arrested by the police who confirmed that he was earlier involved in several criminal acts including theft.
