Bhubaneswar: In a ghastly incident, a man was allegedly thrashed to death for objecting to romantic advancements by a relative towards his wife in Balipatna area on the outskirts of Odisha capital.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Majhihara Mahala Sahi under the jurisdiction of Balipatna police station. The deceased has been identified as Akshay Majhi. The prime accused, identified as Dilu, is said to be a relative of the deceased.
Sources said Akshay was found in a pool of blood at Nuasahi village on Sunday night. He had injuries on his head and other parts of the body. The villagers took him to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Monday morning during treatment.
Locals alleged that Dilu was making romantic advancements towards Akshay’s wife Shravani Majhi. He had allegedly sent an obscene message to Shravani around ten days ago. When Shravani showed the message to her husband, Akshay confronted Dilu and a heated argument took place between the two.
Furious over Akshay’s confrontation, accused Dilu had allegedly beaten him at Balakati market around eight days ago. As the victim approached the police, the cops worked out a compromise between the two. Both reportedly agreed to not raise the issue again.
However, Dilu and his associates allegedly thrashed Akshay causing critical injuries to him. He succumbed to his injuries later while undergoing treatment in hospital, sources added.
