Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner tied the nuptial knot with the woman he has been accused of raping at Jharpada jail in Odisha’s capital on Friday.
The wedding was performed as per Hindu rituals in the presence of jail authorities and other prisoners.
“Accused Akash was booked under the POCSO Act. Following a court order on September 6, the permission for wedding was granted by the DG (Prisons) on Thursday. The marriage was held on Friday,” lawyer Laxmipriya Dash, who was also present at the marriage ceremony, told mediapersons.
Akash Nayak aka Bunty, a resident of Jatni area in Khurda district, was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating the woman, then a minor, in 2020.
