Jajpur: A man miraculously survived after being trapped under an overturned stone chips-laden truck for nearly two hours in the district on Thursday night.
According to sources, while the chips-laden truck was going on the National Highway, its driver lost control and the vehicle overturned near Jaraka Chhak. A labourer, who was sitting on the back of the truck, got buried under the heap of chips covered by the basket.
Following the incident, the locals rushed to the spot to rescue the man. Soon, a large number of people gathered with lights and equipment to pull the man out. Two of them desperately dug the chips from under the heap with bare hands. Fortunately, they managed to clear a narrow passage for the man to breath.
Though the locals tried to get the man out through the passage, but they could not succeed as it was very small. Moreover, they could not lift the basket as it was too heavy.
Meanwhile, Fire Brigade reached the spot on being informed and started the rescue operation. Despite their best efforts, the Fire personnel also failed to get the man out from under the truck.
Lastly, two earth moving vehicles were brought to the spot to help in the operation. The earther-movers managed to lift one side of the overturned truck and the locals pulled the man out after two-hour rescue operation.
The labourer, who was had suffered injuries on the head, was rushed to nearby hospital at Dharmasala, the sources said.
