Bhubaneswar: A 32-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a man who visited her house located in Gadakana area of Bhubaneswar on the pretext of returning borrowed money.
Sources said the woman lodged a complaint at Mancheswar police station stating that she has been running a grocery shop in Gajapati Nagar area of the city and the accused, who hails from Kendrapada, happened to be a regular customer.
Claiming that the man had borrowed Rs 50,000 from her, the woman claimed that though the accused had promised to return the money a month, he failed to repay for a long time despite repeated requests.
Following the delay in getting her money back, the woman had again requested the man recently to repay as soon as possible.
The accused reportedly agreed to repay the money and told the woman that he would visit her house and hand over the amount. The man, identified as Mrutyunjay Patra, visited the woman’s house in the evening on March 29 when her husband was away, it was claimed.
Finding her alone, the man allegedly raped her and recorded a video of the act. He also threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone. The woman later mustered courage and decided to approach the police.
Following her the complaint, police have launched an investigation and sent the woman to hospital for medical examination. Further details are awaited.
