Kolkata: A man, who had slapped Tinamool Congress (TMC) MP and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee in 2015, has died under mysterious circumstances.
According to reports, the man, Devasish Acharya, was taken to a Tamluk hospital in Bengal’s Midnapore district in a severely injured condition on Thursday and was declared dead later.
The hospital records show Devasish was brought to the facility at 4.10 am by some unknown men, who left soon after. He died in the afternoon.
Upon reaching the hospital, Devasish’s family found out about his mysterious death and claimed that he was murdered.
BJP leaders have now raised questions about the circumstances leading to the death of Devasish, who had joined the saffron party in 2020, India Today reported.
Police said a preliminary investigation has found that Devasish had gone out with two friends on June 16 evening. The three men rode motorbikes when they stopped at a tea stall near a toll plaza.
This is when Devasish received a phone call and left his friends at the tea stall. Police are now investigating what happened after he left the tea stall.
