Jagatsinghpur: A couple died on Tuesday morning after a speeding potato-laden truck slammed into their motorcycle near Phakirapada Chhak on the Cuttack-Machhagaon road in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
The victims have been identified as Bichitrananda Behera and his wife Limina Behera, residents of Balijori village under Pa
radip Port police limits.
According to sources, the accident took place when the couple was riding toward Jagatsinghpur town. Bichitrananda died on the spot under the impact of the crash while his wife succumbed to critical injuries shortly afterward while undergoing treatment at district headquarters hospital here. The couple are survived by two sons, who are studying in college.
The accident led to tension in the area as locals staged a blockade with the bodies of the deceased, demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved family.
On being informed, police reached the spot and placated the protesters. The truck involved in the crash and efforts are underway to nab the driver, who fled the scene soon after the crash.
