Bhubaneswar: A passenger, who was allegedly smuggling gold, was caught by Customs officials at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
As per reports, the man had allegedly concealed around 1 kg gold capsules in his rectum and the Customs department officials seized these after a through checking.
The passenger, who landed in Bhubaneswar from Bangkok, adopted a novel method and carried the precious metal hidden in his rectum.
The Customs officials and airport authorities examined him with the help of metal detector. However, they failed to detect the gold.
On a specific intelligence input, the Customs officials examined him inside the washroom and found the gold concealed in his rectum. The man was arrested following seizure of the gold.
The smuggler was on his way to Mumbai from Bangkok. The value of the seized gold is estimated to be of around Rs 70 lakh.
Further investigation is underway.
