Bhubaneswar/Khurda: Hours after picking up head of the Manavbad Sangathan Manas Das and his son Manoranjan from their house in Saheed Nagar in the capital city, a special team of Khurda Police arrested them.
The police team had taken the father-son duo from their house to the district SP office in Khurda where they were interrogated and later, arrested. Following the arrest, IG, Central Range Narasingha Bhol arrived at the office of SP Raj Kishore Dora.
Sources said the police will forward Das and his son to the court after the press briefing of the IG tonight.
Earlier in the day, the special team of Khurda Police led by the SDPO Sushil Mishra arrived in Bhubaneswar to pick up Das. The team went to his house (plot no-B-29) in Saheed Nagar where they were told that Das was not present in the house.
However, learning from reliable sources in the locality about the presence of Das in his house, police entered it from the back side and picked him and his son.
It may be noted that the tribals of Khurda district have been accusing Manas Das of torturing them on the plea of doing humanitarian works. The representatives of 11 tribal organisations had met the district SP on Tuesday and demanded his immediate arrest.
