Bhubaneswar: The death toll reportedly due to consumption of mango kernel gruel in Odisha’s Kandhamal district rose as another victim succumbed during treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack on Monday.
In a statement on the day, the authorities of SCB Hospital said the victim, identified as Jita Majhi, who was on ventilator support, passed away.
“In spite of all our efforts, we couldn’t save Jita Majhi, victim of mango kernel poisoning, who was undergoing hemo dialysis with ventilator support, passed away at 2.15 pm at Medicine ICU of the hospital,” the statement said.
Earlier, two other women, Runi Majhi (25) and Ramita Majhi (32), of Mandipanka village under Gadapur panchayat of Daringibadi block in the district, had died while six others fell ill after consuming mango kernel gruel on October 30.
The three of them, including Jita Majhi, were shifted to SCB Medical college on November 2.
