Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly on Thursday witnessed uproarious scene with the opposition Congress and BJP members demanding action against Kendrapara SP Niti Sekhar for allegedly manhandling a journalist.

Raising the issue during zero hour, leader of the Opposition Pradipta Naik said that the SP  manhandled the journalist in presence of the two ministers which is an insult to the fourth pillar. “We demand that the SP should either be transferred or placed under suspension,” he added.

Terming the incident as grossly unfortunate, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati urged the Speaker Surya Narayan Patro to give order for appropriate action against the SP.

Deputy leader of the Opposition Bishnu Sethi demanded a ruling from the Speaker on this matter. But as the Speaker did not give the ruling, the BJP members rushed to the well of the House and staged a dharna.

Unable to run the proceedings amid uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
