Bhubaneswar: Weather scientist Dr Manorama Mohanty has been appointed the new Director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
Dr Mohanty, who replaces H R Biswas, is now serving as the Head of the Meteorological Center of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ahmedabad, sources said on Saturday. Her new posting is reported to have come with a promotion.
HR Biswas, the outgoing Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, has been transferred to IMD, Kolkata.
Hailing from Odisha, Dr Mohanty joined the India Meteorological Department after completing her master’s degree in Physics from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
She is credited for accurate forecasts of powerful cyclones like ‘Tauktae’ and ‘Biparjoy’ that had formed over the Arabian Sea.
