Cuttack: Police on Tuesday detained a person after Childine officials thwarted an alleged attempt to sell two newborns at SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
Following specific information, a team of Childline officials conducted a raid and intercepted the man while carrying out paper works to sell the newborns to two women. Though the women fled the spot, Childline officials managed to click their pictures.
The detainee is a native of Bhadrak district.
According to sources, wife of the accused had given birth to triplet girls three days back. He along with his wife then decided to sell of two among them to earn money.
“The husband-wife duo is being questioned by Childline officials and police. Investigation into the matter is on. Strict action will be initiated against the accused, if found guilty”, SCB emergency officer Bhubanananda Maharana said.
