Many Detained, Fined During Police Crackdown On Open Drinking & Khati In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its safe city drive, the Commissionerate Police carried simultaneous raids in Bhubaneswar and detained many people for indulging in ‘khati’ and consuming liquor in public places’.

The police have also issued a WhatsApp number to ensure zero tolerance towards open drinking and ‘khati’ in residential areas. People can provide information on those violating the law.

A police official said that people can click pictures or send videos if they find anyone drinking in the open or indulging in ‘khati’ activities in public/residential place.

The WhatsApp number for lodging complaint is 7077798111. The identity of the complainant will be kept secret, police said.

During the crackdown on Sunday night, at least six persons were detained and a fine of Rs 6000 was imposed on violators. At least 60 teams of police personnel were part of the raids that were conducted in Laxmi Sagar and Chandrasekharpur area late Sunday night.

Sixteen people sitting in playground, khati places of Capital Police Station area are being verified, police said, adding that the drive will continue.
