Phulbani: A Maoist camp was busted after a fierce exchange of fire between the personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and naxals in Tumudibandha area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Wednesday.
The gun-battle took place inside Sindhipangal forest when the security personnel were carrying out a combing operation. While the red rebels fled the scene, several arms and ammunition and other naxal articles were seized from the camp, sources said.
It is suspected that some naxals might have been injured in the encounter as blood stains were seen at the site. No security personnel was injured in the exchange of fire. Detailed information is awaited.
Combing operation has been intensified in the entire area in the aftermath of the exchange of fire.
It may be recalled that three Maoists were gunned down in an operation by the Special Intelligence Wing (SIW) recently in a forest in Kalahandi district.
The encounter had taken place after the killing of 10 police personnel and a driver by Maoists in Dantewada area of Chhattisgarh last month. A high alert has been sounded in five Odisha districts bordering Chhattisgarh as a precautionary measure to prevent naxal activities.
