Nuapada: The security forces along with police personnel busted a Maoist camp during an operation in deep forest under Komna police limits in the district late Wednesday night.
Speaking to media on Thursday, Nuapada police said following Intelligence inputs about a Maoist camp in the forest on border with Chhattisgarh, the joint team of security forces of SOG, DVF and CRPF and Odisha Police had launched a combing operation on January 7.
When the joint team was carrying out the operation in Sunabeda reserve forest, the Maoists opened fire at them on the night of January 9. An additional team of the security forces was sent to the location as reinforcement next day.
During the team’s combing operation on Chhattisgarh border on Wednesday night, the Maoists again opened fire leading the security forces to retaliate. After heavy exchange of fire for a long time, the Maoists fled.
Later, the security forces launched a search operation and detected the camp. They also seized a huge cache of explosive materials, a tarpaulin, codex wire, a battery and other items from the camp.
