Phulbani: Two days after a heavy exchange of fire with the Maoists in a forest in Kandhamal district, the security forces on Monday busted a camp of Left wing ultras and seized explosives and incriminating materials during a search operation.
Speaking to mediapersons, Kandhamal SP Vinit Agrawal said in a joint operation near village Dhubusara under Gochhapada police limits, Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel recovered a 12-bore country-made gun, an 8 mm country-made gun, 3 haversacks, 4 umbrellas, 2 pairs of Maoist uniform, 2 solar panels, 2 radios, a steel tiffin carrier, two steel plates, a small battery, wire, medicine boxes, huge amount of medicines and Maoist literature from the camp.
Stating that the Maoists were active in Tumudibandha, Baliguda, K Nuagan, Phiringia, Gochhapda, Phulbani Sadar, Kotagarh, Daringbagi and Raikia areas in the district, the SP said the combing operations in these areas are carried out in regular intervals. But the Maoists manage to escape taking advantage of dense forest and difficult terrains.
“The district police are taking every possible measure to flush out the Left-wing ultras under the Operation Clean launched by the state police,” he said.
