Malkangiri: The security personnel destroyed a Maoist camp and seized several articles inside Pujariguda forest in Bonda Ghat area in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday.
Briefing mediapersons, Malkangiri SP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said a joint team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel conducted a search operation on Monday on the basis of the intelligence input about Maoists having set up a camp inside the forest.
“During the search operation last evening, the Maoists hiding inside the forest suddenly opened fire on us. An exchange of fire ensued and the Maoists fled the area. The security personnel later busted a camp inside the forest and seized several articles. A fresh search operation has begun in the forest this morning to track down the ultras,” the SP said.
Stating that no security personnel was injured during the exchange of fire, he said the DVF personnel have sealed the area at Onkadelli bordering Koraput district.
“The BSF personnel in Onkadelli, Machhkund and Lamtaput have been informed about the incident. If necessary, they will be called to join the combing operation,” the SP added.
