Maoist Carrying Reward Of Rs 5 Lakh Surrenders Before Odisha’s Malkangiri Police

Malkangiri: Carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, Kamulu Beti, one of the most wanted left-wing extremists from Chattisgarh laid down his arms before Malkangiri Police in Odisha on Tuesday.

The Maoist surrendered himself to the police on the same day when the body of Sadanand Bepari a businessman of Jodambo panchayat was found in Swabhiman Anchala of Malkangiri. The Maoists had shot down Bepari on Sunday suspecting him to be a police informer.

According to the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Government of Odisha, financial assistance will be provided to Beti for the construction of a house, pursuing studies and training in a trade/vocational of his liking.

Asked about the surrender, DIG Shafeen Ahmed said, “Kamulu got disillusioned with the party leaders after realising that they are doing nothing for the development of the villagers of Tulsi Reserve Forest area. The Maoists are mostly led by Telugu speaking leaders like R.K, Uday, Krishna, Chalapati, Aruna etc. and their cadres are mostly from Chhattisgarh who are mostly innocent tribals who do not have any idea of what is happening around them. As a result, these Maoists do not have any sense of belongingness towards the people of Malkangiri nor Odisha.”

Kamlu Beti was the area committee secretary of Kangerghati Area Committee under Darva division of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee. He had joined the Maoists in Darva Division in 2007.

Beti is the third Maoist to admit defeat in the last two months. Last month, a woman Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on her head had surrendered before the Malkangiri police. Another Maoist with a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head had surrendered last week.
