Dantewada: A hardcore Maoist, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Jiakorta forest near Bhusaras valley under Kuakonda police limits on the border of Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada-Sukma district on Tuesday.
Police have identified the deceased Maoist as Deva alias Tirri Madkami, an area committee member of the banned outfit.
According to sources, a joint party of Dantewada police and CRPF 230th battalion arrived at the spot after receiving information about a body in the forest.
“Madkami was wanted in nine Maoist-related incidents. A weapon, a bag, and a water bottle were recovered near the body,” Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P was quoted as saying by media outlets.
Police suspect infighting within the ranks of the outfit might have led to Deva’s death.
A probe to ascertain the reasons behind his death has begun, Dantewada SP Siddharth Tiwari informed.
