Koraput: A Maoist dump was unearthed by a joint team of district voluntary force (DVF) and special operations group (SOG) personnel during a search operation in Machhkund area of Odisha’s Koraput district, police said on Thursday.
Based on specific information, a team of DVF and SOG carried out an intensive search at the place bordering Koraput-Malkangiri-Andhra Pradesh, resulting in the uncovering of a major Maoist dump in a forest near Machhkund village.
This led to the recovery and seizure of a huge cache of explosive materials, arms & ammunition and other Maoist articles, police said in a press release. Details of the seizure made during the operation are:
The search operation was carried out near Kodaput and Gumudaput villages and nearby areas.
The recovery is a major jolt to the subversive and anti-national design of Maoists in this area.
“We suspect that these explosives along with other articles belong to the Maoist cadres of AOBSZC and were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces to carry out their subversive, anti-national activities and to establish their presence again in this area. In the wake of the recovery, further combing and search operations are underway in this area,” a senior police official said.
