Malkangiri: A Maoist dump was unearthed and a huge quantity of explosive materials seized by the police in Kalimela area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
A joint team of district voluntary force (DVF) and special operations group (SOG) personnel recovered the explosives following a search operation at a place under Kalimela police limits of the district.
Based on specific information received from a reliable source, the team carried out an intensive search at the place bordering Andhra-Odisha, resulting in unearthing of a major Maoist dump in a forest near Kurmanur village. This led to the recovery and seizure of a huge cache of ammunition, IEDs, and other Maoist articles, a press release said on Monday.

The unlawful activities of ultras in the area have witnessed an increase and they are now attempting to reactivate their Dalams (groups) in different areas. Intelligence is being taken and surveillance is being intensified in such vulnerable areas, the official communiqué stated.
Stating that the recovery is a major jolt to the subversive and anti-national design of Maoists in this area, police said it is suspected that these explosives along with other articles belong to the Maoist cadres of AOBSZC and were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces to carry out their subversive, anti-national activities and to establish their presence again in this area. Further combing and search operations are underway in this area after the seizure.
